HELMET SURVEY SHATTERS EXPECTATIONS

WHAT REAL RIDERS HAD TO SAY

The results are in from the Roadcraft USA helmet survey and they surprised us in so many ways.  We set out to find out what the most popular motorcycle helmet style is.  Many of the motorcyclists who responded also offered information on the brand and model they wear.

A large number of respondents said that they wear different helmets in different weather conditions, on different bikes and in different jurisdictions.  They took the time to provide this information, so we tabulated their individual votes.

Overwhelming Response

This survey was published on the Roadcraft USA website and also posted to various motorcycle-oriented Facebook groups that we participate in.  A total of 2,090 riders responded to the survey!  This certainly exceeded our expectations.  We sincerely thank all of you for taking the time to respond to the survey.

Helmet Style • The Numbers

A description of each of these styles was provided in the original post.

Brand Loyalty

Though the question was completely optional, 1,476 of the respondents took the time to indicate what brand and /or model helmet they prefer.  We tabulated those results as well and offer them here:

28% wear Shoei helmets

18% wear Arai helmets

16% wear Schuberth helmets

14% wear HJC helmets

6% wear Bell helmets

4% wear Scorpion Helmets

4% wear Klim helmets

3% wear AGV helmets

The remaining 7% of the votes were distributed among Simpson, Shark, Nolan, Bilt, Sedici, SRT, Fulmer and Harley-Davidson branded helmets.  The brand/model combination that appeared more than any other helmet in this survey of the most popular motorcycle helmet was the Shoei Neotec.

If you weren’t a part of the survey you still have a chance to sound off.  Leave a comment below with your preferred motorcycle helmet style and brand.  If you have any specific questions you would like answered, please feel free to contact us directly via email.  Be sure to subscribe to Roadcraft USA to be a part of future surveys.

  1. I wear an LS2 Valiant II modular helmet as I like the option of having a full face or open face hemet. Prior to buying the LS2, I’ve worn Shoe modular helmets, the first being the Duotec in 1997. The reason I chose the LS2 over the Shoei was the fact that it’s homologated for use as an open face or full face crash helmet here in Spain.

  2. Maybe the turnout is what shattered expectations, but the results were pretty predictable, don’t you think, based on the demo of who reads this blog? I don’t see many pics of people with tats, or bikes covered in chrome. Just sayin’ (and for the record I’ve owned more of the chromey ones than the other kind, and probably have more miles under my belt on them wearing a half helmet or no helmet than a full face).

    1. Hey T…poke around the website a little more and you’ll see that my background included 25 years of riding “chromey” bikes, and a couple hundred thousand miles wearing novelty helmets or no helmet at all also. My tats are covered up these days by the protective riding gear I wear all the time now. This is an “equal opportunity” site written for bikers of all kinds; though it is more in tune with the kind of riders that really get out there and travel long distances. Thanks for reading & commenting.

  3. I have ridden solely with BILT modular helmets for over a decade. My wife and I currently have matching helmets with Bluetooth.

I ride alone 90% of the time on a 2015 Honda Goldwing with 66,000+ miles and I don’t ride in town.
